Levi was the first postmaster of Cowden, Illinois.  He was one of 12 original members of the Cowden United Methodist Church.  The first church building was located on his farm near Cowden.  He was also a farmer, storekeeper, and a Methodist minister. 

Military service:  Civil War, wounded and discharged in October 1864, Private K Company of the Illinois 14th.
