Notes
Individual:
Mamie is buried in Johnson's Chapel Cemetery, Hopkinsville, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. J B and Mamie eloped. They went to Evansville, Indiana on Feb. 1, 1939. It was snowing and Earl Dew drove them to Evansville. When they got to Evansville the court house was closed. Earl knew the sheriff, and took them to the police station. While they were talking, the sheriff handcuffed them together and told them he was going to call their mothers and fathers and them started to laugh. He finally called the Justice of the Peace and asked him to meet them at his house, where J B and Mamie were married.

When J B and Mamie arrived home it was snowing, Mamie had on high heels, so J B had to pick her up and carry her to the house.

This story was told to us by J B Johnson, 1999.
