Individual:
I found one in the Lowville Journal and Repulican for the obit for Peter Bence, who died at 8
2 in 1932, while shoveling snow off the sidewalk. The obit said he was born in April of 1849, in Croghan and had resided for 30 years in Watertown as a carpenter. It also said that his wife, Mary Elizabeth Bence, died last spring, which I found an article that said she had died on 5/27/1931.
There was also an obit for John Bence, b 2/17/1845 and d 12/3/1923 in Lowville. It said tha t he was b in Alsace-Lorrain, France and came to Croghan when young. It listed his parents as Francis and Margaret Bence. It listed Peter Bence of Watertown as his brother.
Children born in France, Parents of children come from France, Germany, back and forth. Child ren born in New York later on.
My GUESS is that Bence lived in Alsace-Lorraine at some point in time. Frank born there (on F rench soil) in 1845. Then in say 1848, The Bence's came to New York. Peter born in 1850.
That's my GUESS.
For example:

has a bunch of kids at home under age 18, but could have had Frank in 1845 at age 18 (wife El izabeth would have been 17).
