Given that the Norwich Cooks appear to have not used the final "e", I find it slightly surprising that John's descendants say he did. Perhaps he changed it because he, like H. Ruth Cooke, believed "that was, without doubt, the original spelling of the name of this family, and those who omitted the e did it from want of thought, rather than from ignorance of it..."#418, p. 38
