Jabez had two wives, the first, Irene, dying in 1831. I have assumed here that Irene is the mother of the children born before 1831 and Harriet is the mother of the others. (Cemetery records specifically show Harriet as mother of Albert.) Jabez had a total of nine children.

Marital facts are a bit garbled in some documents in Jabez's pension file. One states that his wife's name (presumably referring to his wife at the time of the document, i.e. 1871) was Irene Dibble and they were married on or about 15 Feb 1831. Another says his wife's name was Harriet Smith, to whom he was married at Hamilton, Madison Co., N.Y. in February 1830. Another says he was married to Harriet Smith on 23 Feb 1832 in Hamilton, Madison, New York by Elder Beach, a Methodist preacher, and that he had previously been married to Irene Dible who died in the fall of 1831. Phebe Wilson testified that Jabez married Harriet on 23 Feb 1832 in Hamilton, as did James Shores.
About 5 feet 9 1/2 inches, dark hair, blue eyes, light complexion.
