Uncle Warren York's family were more of a "happy-go-lucky" type than most of the Yorks. They had their meals just whenever they happened to want to eat. One night, after supper, they decided to get dandelion greens and have them all ready to cook for dinner the next day. Digging, looking over, and washing dandelion greens for a family as large as theirs, is a long, slow process. By the time they had finished they were hungry enough to eat the greens right away, so they cooked them and all the rest for a regular dinner and had it about midnight.
When Uncle Warren's daughter, Lucy, was married and keeping house, she was still rather unconcerned about when meals were served. Sometimes she would only be starting dinner when her husband came in to eat but she would say, "sit right down at the table, George, dinner will be ready in a little while." Her "little while" might be half an hour or an hour but no one seemed to be bothered about it.
