Individual:
Norma said to Richard Holmes, "Your weird sense of humor must come from my family - When my brother calls he never says hello, he just says something strange; Dad used to play tricks on us all the time; and I've been accused of having a weird sense of humor myself."
Peter worked in an office at a cement plant in or near Hudson, New York. (They were living there circa 1915-17). He got along well with the Italian and Polish immigrant laborers who worked there, unlike many others; he learned some of their language. He developed asthma (probably from the cement dust) and was ordered by his doctor to get away from Hudson, so the family moved to Nassau.
He used to take Norma and other girls to the weekly square and round dances in Nassau. Other men didn't like to dance so he'd dance with their wives. What he lacked in skill he made up in enthusiasm. He had to stop later due to asthma.

In a picture of Alice (Belden) Holmes, the house behind her is the one the Hansons bought when they moved to Nassau (later than the photo).
