The name Eli BELDEN was supplied by Jane BELDEN VAN WORMER around 1945 - at the age of about 101.

However, there clearly was a Jerome BELDEN in South New Berlin who had siblings too old to be children of a man born in 1794 (and his signature matches that of this Jerome); and if Jerome's father was born much before 1794, then Jerome's grandfather would have had to be too old to be a son of a man born in 1751 (biologically possible but extremely unlikely). Also, other sources show no son of James named Eli. So this line seems too problematic to be taken seriously.

Jane VAN WORMER, believed to be Jerome's daughter Nancy Jane, filed an objection to the probate of Jerome's will on 30 Oct 1899. The will was, however, judged valid. Probate may have been on 10 May 1900. Jerome left $50 and half his furniture to his daughter Carline [sic] LEWIS, $100 and half his furniture to his daughter Mary M. SKINNER, and his farm to his son Casson BELDEN. Daughter Nancy Jane VAN WORMER and son Warren BELDEN were not mentioned.

A search for the death record for Jerome BELDEN in the date range 01/01/1898 - 12/31/1900 by the New York State Health Department was unsuccessful. A record does exists with the town of New Berlin, Chenango, New York, USA.
