Ella McClelland (possibly Elizabeth McConnell) age 19, was listed as keeping house in the 1870 Census, Which indicates that George's wife probably died before then. Sarah and George had 13 children with the youngest William Henry. Five died before age of 3 . The Civil War meant further worries since sons Valentine, George Jr. and Peter were old enough to serve. George (wrongly listed as age 57 in the 1870 Census) and children were listed in the 1870 Census in Blair County PA 3rd Ward, Altoona. George Jr. Born in 1846 is listed in the 1880 Census in Altoona PA (wife Mary, 4 children). The 1880 Census lists George and Sarah's oldest son and Civil War Veteran, Valentine Dumm, Who Served in the 11th PA Cavalry was wounded at the battle of Rems Station (8/64), Petersburg Campaign. He was born in 1841 and his home was listed as Carrolltown, Cambria County PA. His wife Elizabeth was born in 1844.
