- Title: Jacqueline Mc Laughlin
Source Text: In the publication, "Reflections of Oregon Pioneer Families", published in 1994, Jacqueline McLaughlin, was the author of a biographical submission on page 79 of JANE HENDERSON LINEBARGER. The biography is as follows: "JANE HENDERSON LINEBARGER was born 5 August 1802. Family lore claims that Jane was the daughter of RICHARD HENDERSON, founder of Hendersonville, KY. She married LEWIS LINEBARGER in 1822 in Indiana. Three sons were born to JANE and LEWIS before they left Indiana about 1832, moving to Illinois. A son and daughter were born there. By 1840 they had moved on to Missouri where two more children were born. While there, they had listened to talk about the "Linn Bill" giving 640 acres of land to every family that would settle in Oregon. LEWIS signed up for the journey, and the farm was sold in preparation for departure in 1843. There were 127 wagons and over 450 people in their company. After the first day's travel, D. T. Lennox was elected captain to replace Peter Burnett, who had resigned. Soon, more dissension caused the train to break into two sections with those leading large herds of livestock following behind under the leadership of Jesse Applegate. They arrived at Oregon City on 26 November 1843. LEWIS and JANE LINEBARGER settled on their Donation Land Claim in Linn County in 1853. JANE died in 1875 and LEWIS died in 1883. Both are buried in Sand Ridge Cemetery. G-G-Granddaughter, JACQUELINE McLAUGHLIN"
MY COMMENT: JANE HENDERSON's was not a daughter of RICHARD HENDERSON, but her grandfather JOHN HENDERSON was a cousin of the Colonial Judge of North Carolina, RICHARD HENDERSON, who founded the Transylvania Company there to colonize Kentucky.
