Title: Notes
Text:
Some have confused this Robert B. Gilmour with his cousin, Robert
Gilmour who was a son of Dr. James George Gilmour and Mary Ellen
"Polly" Whitley Gilmour and who with his family moved to Warren County,
Illinois from Kentucky about 1835. Dr. James George Gilmour died in
Warren County in the year 1847 and most of his children remained there
through 1880. After 1880, a couple of his brothers relocated to Kansas.
There is no record of this Robert in the Warren County Census report for
1850 or 1860. His sister, Mary Ellen Gilmour married Dr. George Fischer
Crawford and they migrated across the plains to Oregon in 1852. Robert
was not with them on this journey.
Robert B. Gilmour [1821 - 1882, who died in Linn County, Oregon, was the
son of George and Polly Terrell [Hickman]. He and his older brother James
Lewis Gilmour lived in Hancock County, Illinois at the time of the 1850
Census. In the 1860 Census report he and his wife Mary Ann lived next
door to his brother in Benton Township [near Kirksville], Adair County,
Missouri. In the 1880 Census, they resided in Rutland Township,
Montgomery County, Kansas. In the 1880 Census Robert B. and Mary Ann
Gilmour resided in Scio, Linn County, Oregon, and he died there in 1882.
