On page 203: "EDWIN HICKMAN removed from Spotsylvania to Albemarle where he was one of the first justices in 1744. In his will dated Feb. 4, 1758, he names his wife ELLINOR and his children, JAMES, EDWIN, RICHARD, WILLIAM, THOMAS, SUSANNA, LETTICE and MARTHA".

Source Text: "In the name of God Amen. I, EDWIN HICKMAN of Fredericksville Parish in Albemarle County being sick and weak but in perfect senses and memory, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, vis: Imperimas. I bequeath my soul to God my Creator in sure and certain hope of a joyful resurrection through the merits and meditations of Jesus Christ my Redeemer, and my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named.
ITEM: After my just debts and funeral expenses paid, I give and bequeath to my dear and well-beloved wife ELLIANOR [sic] HICKMAN, the third of all my lands, a negro woman named Dinah and her future increase, and a child's part of the rest of my estate, real and personal, except some legacies left hereafter to all my children, to her during her natural life. After her decrease, to be equally divided amongst all my children, barring hereof any other right, title or claim of my aforesaid Estate as may accrue by law.
ITEM: I give and bequeath unto my son JAMES HICKMAN, one third part of a tract of land of twelve hundred and fifty acres lying and being in the little fork of the Rapahannock [sic] River in Culpeper County, the plantation whereupon he now lives being part, and a Negro boy named Ben, to him and his heirs forever.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son EDWIN HICKMAN, one third part of a tract of land of twelve hundred and fifty acres, lying and being in the little fork of the Rapahannock [sic] River, the plantation where he now lives being a part, and a negro boy named Charles, to him and his heirs forever.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son RICHARD HICKMAN the remaining third part of a tract of land of twelvehundred and fifty acres, in Culpeper County, and a negro girl and her increase, and a feather bed, to him and his heirs forever.

CODICIL 30 June 1769:. Whereas my son RICHARD HICKMAN is dead, my will and desire is that my son-in-law, JOSEPH SMITH, have the tract of land that is left to my son RICHARD HICKMAN, in my will. Witness by my hand and seal this 30th day of June 1769... (signed) EDWIN HICKMAN...Testees: WALTER MANZLEY; ELIZABETH RUSH (her Mark); ALICE HORDIN (her Mark).
PLEASE NOTE: EDWIN HICKMAN's Will was proven in November 1769 as indicated in the following paragraph: "At Albemarle, November Court 1769, this Last Will and Testament of EDWIN HICKMAN decd was proved by the oaths of JOEL LEWIS and AARON MCKENZIE, witnesses thereto, and whereas at the said Court the writing annexed to the said Will was proved by the oath of ALICE HARDIN and ELIZABETH RUSH, Witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. PLEASE NOTE: This was then recorded on 31 March 1703, which is indicated as follows: " I. W. L.
