Title: Notes
Text:
Not very much is known about Jennie Gilmour [most commonly referred to
as Jennie Gilmore]. The bondsman who signed her marriage certificate
[along with her husband,Taliaferro Bronaugh] was James Gilmore,
according to the marriage records in Lincoln County, Kentucky. I have a
copy of the original hand written bond in which she is referred to as Jenny
and in which there are two references to James Gilmore who then signed
his name "James Gilmour". This was the James Gilmour [born 17 January
1745 in Lancaster County, PA; died 18 November 1834 in Christian County,
KY].
In September 2008, a deed was discovered from Alexander Gilmour to
Taliaferro Bronaugh, Jennie's husband. In this deed, Alexander Gilmour
refers to Jennie as his sister. Alexander Gilmour was the 3rd son of James
Gilmour [born 17 January 1745 in Lancaster County, PA; died 18 November
1834 in Christian County, KY].
There were many interactions including a series of land sales between
James Gilmour and Taliaferro Bronaugh from 1796 until at least 1809 in
Lincoln County, KY. James Gilmour and Taliaferro Bronaugh both moved
their families to Christian County in about 1815 and they lived on adjacent
properties according to the 1820 and 1830 U.S. Census reports.

- Title: Marriage Records of Lincoln County, Kentucky 1781-1792
Source Text: Lincoln County, KY Marriage Records identify date of marriage between TALIAFERRO BRONAUGH and JENNIE GILMORE as January 5, 1796. The Bondsman was JENNIE GILMORE's brother, who signed his name "JAMES GILMOUR"
The marriage bond reads as follows [and is keyed in exactly as written; Note that James Gilmour signs his name "Gilmour" and not "Gilmore"]:
"Know all men by these presents that we Taliaferro Bronaugh & James Gilmore are held and firmly bound unto James Garrard Esquire, Governor of Kentucky in the sum of fifty pounds current money the payment whereas to be made to the said Governor and his successors we bind ourselves our Heirs & family by their presents sealed with our seals & dated this 5th day of January 1796.
The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound Taliaferro Bronaugh and Jenny Gilmore for which a License has aforded. Now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct said Marriage then this obligation to be void. Else to remain in full force."
Sealed & Delivered Taliaferro Bronaugh [Seal]

Source Text: There is no certainty as to whom JENNIE GILMORE's parents were and there seem to be some contradictions about her origin. STEVEN WILLIAMS has a copy of the family Bible of THOMAS CLAYTON BRONAUGH, son of TALIAFERRO BRONAUGH and JENNIE [GILMORE] BRONAUGH. The bible entry for his mother, JENNIE GILMORE, states that she was born on 5 September 1781 in Breckinridge County, KY. The date may be correct, BUT... Breckinridge County was not formed until 1799 from Hardin County about 18 years after she was born in 1771. Hardin County was formed in 1792 from Nelson County which was formed in 1784 from one of the three original Kentucky counties, Jefferson County which was formed in 1780. Prior to 1780, Kentucky was considered part of Virginia. So, JENNIE was either born in Jefferson County, KY or in Virginia. I also have a record obtained from LDS sources in 1991, which states that her name was ELIZABETH JANE, that she was born in 1771 in Virginia and that her parents were JAMES GILMORE and MARGARET BERRY, but I have seen no evidence to support this claim from any other documented source. In the 1790 Census, the Gilmores living in Kentucky were either in Fayette or Lincoln counties. There was one JAMES GILMORE listed in Fayette county and there were two JAMES GILMOREs living in Lincoln County. One of the Lincoln County JAMES' may have been a "duplicate" according to most accounts. Our JAMES GILMOUR who was born 1745 in Lancaster County, PA, whose son was GEORGE GILMOUR who married POLLY TERRELL HICKMAN and whose grandson was JOHN WILSON GILMOUR who married JANE ALEXANDER BRONAUGH, daughter of TALIAFERRO BRONAUGH and JENNIE GILMOUR BRONAUGH, was known to have owned proprerty in both Fayette and Lincoln counties at this time. The remaining JAMES was most likely the JAMES GILMORE, born 1745 in Augusta County, VA who married MARTHA ANN MCKELWEE in Lincoln County in 1782. Both of the JAMES' were probably too old to have been the brother who attested to JENNIE GILMORE's marriage to TALIAFERR BRONAUGH since they were born at least thirty years before JENNIE was in 1781.

Source Text: There is a possibility that JENNIE may have been the daughter of JAMES GILMOUR, born 1745 in Lancaster County, PA and that she was born about the time he settled in Lincoln County, KY. According a grant deed of land from ALEXANDER GILMOUR to TALIAFERRO BRONAUGH, there is a statement made by ALEXANDER that JENNIE BRONAUGH was his sister. ALEXANDER GILMOUR was the son of JAMES GILMOUR. A copy of this deed is held by a descendant of the ELIZABETH BRONAUGH, daughter of TALIAFERRO and JENNIE BRONAUGH.
