" Inscriptions of JOEL HICKMAN and his wife, FRANCES GARETTA, may be found in the HICKMAN Graveyard in Clark county, Kentucky" The inscription for Frances Garetta reads as follows: "IN MEMORY OF FRANCES GARETTA WIFE OF JOEL HICKMAN, BORN MARCH 3, 1768 DIED MAY 22, 1847"

    Source Text: On 24 April 1830, FRANCES JERETTA HICKMAN applied in Clark County, Kentucky for 200 acres of land in Kentucky under the United States "Department of War Regulations for the heirs of officers and Soldiers of the Revolutionary Arm, who were slain by the enemy, or who have died since the war, and have not received land from the United States. The original documents are transcribed as follows: State of Kentucky-------- County of Clarke ------ Ap[ril 24th 1830 "I, FRANCES J. HICKMAN heir at law of Lieutenant JOHN WILSON do, upon oath, testify to the best of my knowldge that the said Lieut. WILSON, my father, did serve in the army of the United States and served in the regiment No. 4. under the Command of Colonel --------on Continental establishment of the Virginia line, and that he continued in the service aforesaid until the 8th of Sept 1781, when he was Slain in the battle of Eutaw Springs. I further declare that I have never received a warrant for the bounty land promised to him on part of the United States; nor do I believe I have ever received it or transferred his claim in any manner whatsoever: therefore...I, FRANCES JERETTA HICKIMAN aforesaid, do hereby constitute and appoint the Hon RICH M. JOHNSON to be my true and lawful attorney, for me in my name and receive from the Secretary of War of the United States, a warrant for the quantity of land due to me as aforesaid and my said attorney is hereby fully authorized and empowered to constitute and appoint one or more substitutes or attorneys under hire for the special purposes above expressed" attest Signed: FRANCES JERETTA HICKMAN" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Personally appeared the above named FRANCES JERETTA HICKMAN subscriber to the foregoing declaration, and to my presence acknowledged the power of attorfney thereto subjoined to be her free act and deed, for the purposes therein mentioned.     Source Text: In this report the heirs of JOHN WILSON were attested to on March 27, 1830 The report is transcribed as follows: "JOHN WILSON --- HEIRS OF ------------- March 27, 1830---------- Mr. BROWN, from the Committee on Revolutionary Claims, made the following REPORT: The Committee on Revolutionary Claims, to whom was referred the petition of Lieutenant JOHN WILSON's heirs, have had the same under consideration, and beg leave to report: That the said JOHN WILSON entered into the service of his country, as a private soldier in the Virginia line on continental establishment, in the year 1776. Soon after joining the service, was appointed an Ensign, and subsequently a Lieutenant. That he continued in the servicde up to the year 1781, when, on the 8th of September, of that year in the battle of Eutaw Springs, he was killed, leaving two infant children, whose names were in the year 1787, placed on the pension roll of the State of Virginia, at the rate of 20 [pounds] per annum, but being removed from that state, in the Autumn of the same year to the State of Kentucky, and being very young, they were not able, and did not avail themselves of the bounty of their country, and in the opinion of your committee, never did receive any part of said pension. By a resolution of the 24th of August, 1780, half pay for seven years was granted to the widows and children of those who might die in the service, or be slain in battle; and your committee, believing this case falls within the strict letter and spirit of said resolution, report a bill for their relief."

JOHNSON, dated 22 June 1830, which states the following: "I have rcd a land warrant No. 1626 for FRANCES JERETTA HICKMAN daughter and only heir of JOHN WILSON and who was a lieutenant in the Virginia line for 200 acres of land.
