s father is Joel Downs. That has been my hardest find was to connect
Rebecca with Joel. I finally found a marriage permission for Rebecca
that had Joel's name on it. Halliluhah!!

Text: At the same time and placed appeared Samuel Downs a resident of Warren Township in said county of Trumbull in the State of Ohio age 47 years, who being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says th
at Joel Downs who was sworn to and who subscribed the foregoing application for state pay Clothing Equipment etc under the Act of the People of the State of New York, this day in deponents presence, is the same Joel Downs from who deponent purchased a land warrant fro 160 acres of Bounty Land issued by the United States under the Act of Congress approved 3 March 1855, to him. Deponent further deposes that he purchased the same about the 6th of February 1856, and received the same from the said Joel Downs. That deponent has sold said warrant and cannot have reference to the same and cannot give its number or date, but states on his own knowledge that said Joel Downs was the identical person to whom said warrant was issued and that the appointment thereof was acknowledged by Jebediah Fitch, Esq. the Justice of the peace now here present.
