Hypothesis: Thomas is the brother of Charles Biggs whose probated will credits him with child ren James, Henry and Judith Gray, granddaughter Frances Hudson and wife Ann (possibly Wilshire from IGI) and also the brother of Joseph , victualler, of Codicote
Here is Joseph Bigg's will:
The last Will and Testament of Joseph Bigg that is to say I Joseph Bigg of Codicote in the C ounty of Hertford Victualler being in perfect health of body and of sound ???? mind and ???? memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following first I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Bigg all my money securities for money goods chattels and effects of what kind soever to me belonging or to be belonging Item(?) I give and bequeath unto my said wife Elizabeth Bigg a freehold estate situate in the parish of Kimpton in the County of Herts known by the Name of ???field now in the occupation of Samuel??? North Item I give and bequeath unto my said wife a freehold messuage or dwelling house with appertaining thereto situate at Kimpton Bottom in the said county now in the occupation of Thomas Giddins Item I give and bequeath unto my aforesaid wife a freehold messuage or dwelling house with Blacksmiths Shop adjoining and situate at Willian in the county aforesaid now in the occupation of Sigismund Cook Item I devise unto my said wife an estate at Norton Green in the parish of Stevenage in the said county part whereof is freehold and part copyhold containing in the whole about eight acres in the occupation of Robert Hornsby Item I give and bequeath unto my aforesaid wife Elizabeth Bigg a freehold messuage or dwelling house in Codicote in the county aforesaid in two tenements in the occupation of Henry Crane? and his undertenant James Kirby lastly I give and bequeath to my said wife another copyhold messuage or dwellinghouse in the same village in the same county now let in two tenements with a large garden and orchard containing in the whole about one acre and a half in the occupation of Joseph Gray [ my note: NB compare with George Gray of Offley in the will of Charles Bigg] and his undertenant William Simms?? all of which viz the foregoing bequests I give unto my said wife her heirs executors? administrators and assigns and I do hereby nominate and appoint my son Thomas Bigg and my aforesaid wife Elizabeth Bigg joint Executor and Executrix of this my will ..........thirteenth day of August one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight Joseph Bigg his mark Signed sealed etc in the prescence of us Geo Garratt Geo English Thos Sibley
Proved at London the 10th July 1838 etc by the oath of Elizabeth Bigg Widow the Relict etc a nd..... to Thomas Bigg the Son ..... when he shall apply for the same
Here is the will of Charles Bigg:
The Last Will and Testament of Charles Biggs Labourer of the Parish of Welwyn in the Count y of Hertford made this thirty first day October One Thousand Eight Hundres and Thirty Four mywill is that all my just debts and Funeral expenses be paid as soon as conveniently can be done after my decease and I do give and bequeath to my wife Ann Biggs all my Funded property Household goods and all my other property whatever and wheresoever to have and to enjoy for her sole use and benefit without let hindrance or molestation during her natural life and after her decease I bequeath my property in the following form and order to my Son James Biggs of the Parish of Codicote in the County of Hertford one feather bed one bolster one feather pillow and furniture three blankets a pair of sheets and quilt two pewter plates a bill two wedges a saw a spade a chair a frying pan and gridiron to my son Henry Biggs of the Parish of Welwyn in the County of Hertford one flock and feather bed one bolster and feather pillow one pair of sheets three blankets one quilt a clock two pewter plates the great kettle a bill two wedges an axe two shovels a tea kettle the oval table and one chair to my daughter Judith Gray the wife of George Gray of the Parish of Offley in the County of Hertford one flock bed one bolster three blankets one feather pillow a pair of sheets a quilt three pewter dishes bed cloth curtain dresser a table and one chair to my grandaughter Frances Hudson a small blanket one feather pillow a pair of sheets a round table a corner cupboard and a chair and to her husband William Hudson my clothes brush and drinking horn and their son Charles Hudson my watch wherever they or any of them may reside at the time of the decease of my wife and I do desire the said Frances Hudson to divide my old sheets hounds irons fire shovel bellows crockery and all other sundries not mentioned into fourparts as fair and equal as she can to be divided between herself James Biggs Henry Biggs and Judith Gray and Frances Hudson aforesaid and I do hereby make ordain constitute and appoint my older son James Biggs and my Grandaughter Frances Hudson both before mentioned joint executors of this my last Will and Testament Lastly I do revoke and utterly disallow all former wills and Testaments by me at any time made and declare this and this only to be my last real ?
