Text:
REFN: 650Antonio Baca was a captain by 1628 and twenty-eight years old, he said, married and living in Santa Fe. {AGN, Mex. Inq. t. 356, f. 02; t. 363, ff. 4, 12; t. 3372, ff. 3, 4.] He was the main ringleader in the anti-Rosas faction which caused this Governor's death. [Cf.Troublous Times, pp. 127-176; his wife's niece was a principal in the affair. Ortiz Trial, ff. 1-80.] He was also the leader of the people who defied the Governor by barricading themselves with the friars at Santo Domingo Pueblo. His turbulent career ended on July 21, 1643, when he was beheaded with others in Santa Fe. [Ibid., p. 175; AGN, loc.cit . pp. 594, 263].
His wife was Yumar Perez de Bustillo, forty years old in 1631. [AGN, loc.cit., t. 372, f. 18; t. 380, ff. 253-254.]. She, too, had come to New Mexico as a child with her parents. Of their three known daughters, Gertrudis married Antonio Jorge, Ana was the wife of Francisco Lopez de Aragon, and Gregoria married Antonio de Albizu. What later Bacas were their sons, if any, can not as yet be ascertained.REFN: 650REFN: 650Antonio Baca was a captain by 1628 and twenty-eight years old, he said, married and living in Santa Fe. {AGN, Mex.
