Although her surnameis not of record, I believe th at she was an Alexander, probably sisterot Samuel Alexander with whom John McKnitt was intima tely associatedin both Somerset and Cecil Counties.
It is uncertain when the the McKnitts landed at Philadelphia or NewCastle-on-Delaware or a t one of the eastern shored Virginia ports ofentrey. What we do know is that thay did not rem ain there, but locatedinstead on the west side of the Pocomoke River on a track called TheStr and which, originally consisted of 1,000 acres, had been surveyed 7March 1663 for Daniel Jeni fer but patented in the name of Capt ThomasSmith. At the time of John McKnitt's acquisition o f his 88 acresthereof, the other owners were Thomas Carroll's orphans,100 acres;Mark Gendron, 200 acres: Walter Lane,200 acres: Thaomas Layfield, 112acres: and James Arkinson,.100 acres.( Rent Rools) The Strand was inthe Manokin nerghborhood in which the Alexanders, Bropwns, Kin gs,Polks, Strawbridges and Walllices resided. ( Old Somerset pg 13, 232,271, 364-5, 430, 468. ) There he continued to live about 15 yearsduring all of which time the Reverend Thomas Wilso n was pastor of theManokin Presbyterian Congregation..
