John Brevard He was among the first Maryland colonists in Rowan(Iredell) Co.N.C.some time bet ween 1740 and 1750,settling about twomiles from Center Church. At the commencement of the Rev olutionaryWar,he,then an old and infirm man,had 8 sons and 4 dau.John was a wellknown and inf luential Whig,and early installed his patrioticprinciples into the minds of his children.Hi s house and buildings wereburned by the British for the reason that he had eight sons in ther ebel army(Ref:WSR-113,adn CLH-233,234 and Marylanders to Carolinia byHenry C.Penden Jr.)
