William Macon, the oldest son, lived on Gideon's estate in New Kent until 1725 when he built Mount Prospect.
Surry Co. DB 7, p 605, 18 Aug 1725. . William Macon of New Kent County and wife, Mary Macon the only daughter and heir of William Hartwell, decd. to Robert Carter, Esq. of Lancaster Co. ( Robert Carter appoints his son-in-law Maj Benjamin Harrison of Charles City County as his attorney). . .1210 acres on south side of James River between Grays Creek and Crouches Creek (being part of an Escheat Patent for 1960 acres granted on 20 Apr 1687 to Henry Hartwell, Esq, formerly of Virginia. 700 acres were sold by Henry Hartwell in his lifetime to John Thompson and the other 50 acres was disposed of by the said Henry Hartwell for a Town. Henry Hartwell devised the rest of the tract in his will dated 3 Jul 1699/6 Dec 1699 in James City County to his nephew, Henry Hartwell who was the son of his brother William Hartwell. Henry Hartwell, the nephew, died in his minority and the land went to his father, William Hartwell, who died leaving only one child, Mary Hartwell who married the said William Macon.) Land is bounded by Thomas Brewer (formerly the land of John Thompson). Wit: Henry Harrison, Stith Bolling and John Allen. Rec: 15 Sep 1725, signed William Macon and Mary Macon.
