The Trahan Family

The parents of Guillaume Trahan Nicolas and Renée Desloges lived at Montreuil-Bellay (Maine and Loire). It is most probable that Guillaume Trahan was born there. On July 17, 1627, he married, in the Parish of Saint-Etienne de Chinon, Francoise Carbonneau. Nine years later, on April 1, 1636, along with other families who came from Bourgeuil, Guillaume Trahan, his wife Francoise and their daughter Jeanne left the port of La Rochelle onboard the ship "Saint-Jehan" to arrive in Acadia where they were one of the founding families of the colony.

It was at Port Royal, near 1666, that Guillaume Trahan became a widower and married his second wife, Madeleine Brun, the daughter of Vincent and Renée Brode.

Guillaume Trahan played a very important role in Acadia. In 1640, shortly after his arrival, he was the represetative of the people of Pentagouet, La Havre and Port Royal. In 1644, his daughter marri ed the milirary-surgeon, Jacques Bourgeois. In 1654, after the takeover of Port Royal by Major Sedgewick, Guillaume Trahan was the official Receiver and President of the inhabitants in the area. OnAugust 16, 1654 Guillaume Trahan signed the act of surrender of Port Royal, his name was spelt Guillaume Trouen.

He died at Port Royal around 1682.
