Notes
Text:
Birthplace also stated as Frederick Town, Virginia (wrong)
In 1810, when "Pickaway County" was created, a portion of Ross County went into its make-up. The Aters, without moving a stick of furniture, found themselves then located in this new county in what became Deer Creek Township.
Jacob, like his father, did his patriotic duty. He served during the War of 1812 as a private in Capt. Phillip McNeme's Company of Ross County, Ohio Militia.
When Nancy's parents, Ignatius and Elizabeth Sollars, emigrated to Vermillion Co., Indiana in 1829, she, Jacob and family remained in Ohio. Her sister, Susannah and husband, Platt Hull and family also remained in Deer Creek Township, in Pickaway Co., Ohio.
In 1840/41, Jacob and Nancy's eldest son, Ignatius Ater, moved his family westward to settle in Pike County, Illinois.
In 1844, Platt and Susannah Sollars Hull followed suit, settling near the town of Sullivan in Moultrie County, Illinois. Platt was successful as farmer and in raising livestock.
Jacob and Nancy Sollars Ater were reasonably well set in their adopted state of Ohio. They lived out their lives in Deer Creek Township, Pickaway County, Ohio.
Nancy Sollars Ater died Saturday, February 2, 1856 aged 66 years, 2 months and 20 days. Burial was in Ator/Baptist Cemetery in Deerfield Township, Ross County, Ohio which was just a step over the county line out of Deer Creek Township, Pickaway County, Ohio.
Jacob Ater survived his wife just 16 months, dying Thursday, July 23, 1857, aged 75 years, 4 months and 8 days. Burial was beside Nancy in the Ator Cemetery.
Jacob's birthdate is also found as 15 Feb 1782. Served in War 1812 in Captain Philip McNerner Company.
Jacob Ator’s health apparently began to fail him late in 1855, for on the 19 day of December in that year he had his will drawn up: WILL OF JACOB ATOR, SR. (19 DEC 1855)
Pickaway County, Ohio Will Record 4, page 150 Jacob Ator Sen's Will 0-1610 In the name of the Benevolent Father of all, I, Jacob Ator , of the county of Piackaway and State of Ohio do make and publish this my last will and testament.
