Following a lengthy illness, Josiah Charles Southam, of Ell ice
Township, passed away at the General Hospital on Saturday a fternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Mr. Southam was born in Hartsville, England 55 years ago and had been a resident of Stratford for about 25 years, being an employee of the C. N. R. shops until September last, when he became ill. He was confined to the hospital about a month when he was able to be removed to his home. About ten days ago he was again removed to the hospital, where his death occurred. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist church and also an active member of the Sons of England. He is survived by his wife and seven children, Jack, Fred, Harry, Rose, Edith, Mary and Alice, all at home and a sister, Mrs. E. Meecham, of London, Ontario. The funeral took place from Heinbuch's funeral rooms this afternoon at three o'clock. The service was conducted by Rev. J. G. Connor of Memorial Baptist church, assisted by Rev. G. P. Duncan of St. Andrew's church. Many beautiful floral tributes were received, testifying to the esteem in which Mr. Southam was held by his large circle of friends. The body was laid to rest in Avondale cemetery and the pall bearers were C. Cowley, H. Tidey, G. Hook, E. V. Huart, C. Harmer and H. Fry. Floral tributes were received from the following: The family, men of the Baptist church, employees of the boiler shop, C.N.R., Men's Bible Class of Memorial Baptist church, Sons of England, Mr. and Mrs. G. Herman, H. Fry and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. Kidnew, Mr. and Mrs. Madge, Mr. and Mrs. B. King. R. M. Ballantyne Company, Mr. and Mrs. F. Oliver, Classic Women's Institute, Mr. and Mrs. J. Skinner.
