Stubbs:In the Centennial History of Arkansas Methodism page 503: PeterStubbs is mentioned as a leader in the church at CardensBottom.OBITUARY:Peter H. Stubbs of Carden Bottom, died at the home of his son,John H. Stubbs, in Conway at 1:30 O'clock Tuesday morning,after a short illness with the grip. He had been in feeblehealth for some time. Mr. Stubbs was born in Bennetsville, S.C.September 3, 1830. After serving in the Confederate Armythroughout the CMI War, during which he was once wounded andtwice taken a prisoner of war, he moved to Arkansas in 1869,settling in Jefferson County. In 1876 he moved to this county,locating on a plantation in Carden Bottom, which was his homeuntil his death. Mr. Stubbs was married May 16th 1860 toElizabeth McVicker, who survives him. He is also survived bythree children, AD. Stubbs and Mrs. AE. Elkins of Carden Bottomand J.H. Stubbs of Conway. He had been a member of theMethodist Church for over 60 years.Date of Death: March 19, 1910Peter Stubbs enlisted in the Confederate Army May 5, 1862 atZebulon, Georgia for 3 years or duration of the war. He was inCompany H. 53rd Georgia Regiment. Wounded at Sharpsburg, MD onSeptember 17, 1862. He was taken prisoner at Strasberg,October 19, 1864 and released June 20,1865 at Point Lookout,MD. He settled in Yell County about 1876.
