Honorable Peleg Tallman 1764-1841 His Ancestors and Descendants by Will

Frances M. Tallman tells of Peleg Tallman (1736-1841) son Benjamin (1710-1794) and nephew of my William (1720-1791), who became a leading citizen of Bath, Maine. She stopped at Wiscasset library one rainy day to read the account of his life, givin by Peleg in his 80s. She says: "I do believe he had a rather lively imagination when recalling his youth! He recounted being captured by pirates, imprisoned abroad and finally making his way back to Rhode Island, discovered he was an "orphan" because his family had disappeared! That last statement is beyond credence! His parents lived right here all their lives, were rather well known, and produced nine children over a 24 year period. The orphan image suited his fancy in a rags-to-riches tale, I guess!"
