Notes
Individual:
Daniel Abbott came to America in 1630 aboard one of the eleven ships in t
he Winthrop Fleet, made up of the Arabella, Ambrose, Jewel, Talbot, Charles, Mayflower, William & Francis, Hopewell, Whale, Success and Trial. The fleet departed from London on 8 Apr. 1630 and arrived in Charlestown and Salem harbors in Massachusetts between 26 May 1630 and 10 June 1630. Daniel was most probably not married when he left England. He was appointed Juror on 18 Sep. 1630 and Freeman on 18 May 1631 in Cambridge, MA. On 4 June 1639, Daniel and his family left Cambridge for residence in New Providence, RI. Daniel probably did not re-marry following the death of wife Mary.

    Pioneers of Massachusetts

Charles Henry Pope, Pioneers of Massachusetts

1900 (Republished Bowie, MD: Heritage Books, 1991)

This descriptive list of pioneers of Massachusetts was taken from colon
ial, town, church and other contemporary documents. It lists over 5000 persons who settled the colony and were instrumental in its growth. Including settlers from as far back as the Mayflower, researchers will find birth, occupation, marriage and death information along with a list of known descendants. For those seeking ancestors from the colonies of Massachusetts and Plymouth, this can be a helpful source of information. The total number of ,'Pioneers" on record is about 6,000. Of these the occupations of only 1,725 were mentioned; 323 being called tillers of the soil, (including both wealthy landholders and humble plowmen,) 210 house and ship carpenters, 115 tailors, 103 merchants, 91 ministers, 81 shoemakerS, 75 sea-captains, 62 weavers, and so on. We have further some 471 cases in which the records specify the settlers.
