hE was born in 1608 in LA Rochelle, Charente-Maritime, France. He died in Dec 1676 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Pierre was a Protestant who made his way to England, which was more hospitable to Protestants than France was. Unknown if Laverdure was a true surname or simply a descriptive name of someone eithe r possessed of vigor and endurance ("verdeur") or someone comfortable i n the out-of-doors ("verdure"). Commonly named Pierre Melanson . Brought with his family to Acadia in 1657 by Thomas Temple. It i s a tribute to the religious toleration of the Acadians that he felt comfortable moving with his family to Acadia after his experiences in F rance. After the Treaty of Breda in 1667, moved with his family to Boston.
He was married to Priscilla MALLINSON in 1630 in Yorkshire, England. There is some confusion about the names of the family. Th e husband, Pierre Melanson, may have been originally named Pierre Lave rdure. The wife, Priscilla, may have been born Priscilla Melanson or M allinson. The names of all their direct-line descendants are Melanson , Melancon, or Melanson-Laverdure.
