Text: Mr. Pierre Boucher (sior of Grosbois) recruited with his expenses Sebastien Provencher in May 1658 so that this one comes to be established in the Cape-of-the-Madeleine. (In 1647, the Cape-of-the-Madeleine was called Rivière Faverell then Cape-of-Three-Rivers in 1651, for then becoming Cape-of-the-Madeleine on May 22, 1652.) Pierre Boucher affirmed that the poor people would be better in Canada than in France provided that they are not lazy.
The only requierement Mr. Boucher had made for his success in Canada was that Sebastien should not be lazy.
Recent research seems to indicate that the origins of Sebastien Provencher could be in Pithiviers, France and Marguerite Manchon could be in Arthenay, in the Loiret region in France.
