Individual:
Known as "The Patriot". Began practicing law at Plymouth an
d soon settled in Boston. Appointed Advocate General at the Court of Admiralty whick he resigned in 1761. Also in 1761 he argued famously against the "Writs of Assistance", which is regarded as the first act of opposition to the arbitrary claims of Great Britain. This single event helped spark the American Revolution. Was chosen as representative of Boston and was a member of the "Stamp Act Congress" of 1765. Brutally attacked by British officers in 1770 he soon afterwards lost his sanity.
