He was a Methodist Minister for 30 years. He was a Mason. He moved to Texas in 1877 - 1878, and lived around Aurora, Wise Co., Texas. (madesomewhat famous as the site where a UFO supposedly crashed in 1897)

1850 Census - 31 yrs old, living in Tishomingo Co., Mississippi with wife and children. pg 135

1860 Census - 41 yrs old, living in Tishomingo Co., Mississippi with wife and children. pg 309

1870 Census - 51 yrs old, living with sons in Savannah Post Office, Hardin Co., Tennessee. pg 489 His son Francis is living next door.

1880 Census - 61 yrs old, living in the house of his son Seth Taylor Martin in Wise Co., Texas. Precinct 5, pg 205D

James Parkson Martin's Family suffered greatly during the Civil War. They lost most of their property except their land in Tishomingo Co., MS.His family consisted of four sons and one daughter. He was a Mason.

According to Rev. Francis Martin "On November2, 1877, with loaded wagons, my father, brother and wife, sister and husband, one little brother, meand my wife and children, and a young man named C M Sherbet, Started toTexas, arriving in Wise Co., TX., December 8th, 1878."
