Matthew has been shown here as a child of his father's second marriage, based upon his date of birth. He inherited a portion of P.T. Barnum's estate and when he died, some of his estate was left to Davis descendants of his half-sister Thirza (Barnum) Davis.
Matthew and Julia Barnum were removed from Kent Congregational Church in 1835, probably to transfer to another church.
In the 1850 U.S. Census for Colebrook, Clinton County, Pennsylvania the family of Matthew Barnum was enumerated as follows: Dwelling #37; Family #37 Matthew S. Barnum, 42, M, Merchant, b.
