For confirmation of Johns' baptism in England see: "American Colonists In
English Records, by George Sherwood, First & Second Series (Two Volumes
in one), page 161, Gen. Pub. Co., Baltimore, 1978"
Guardianship of John West granted to William Partridge Jun 24,1679, he being
chosed by the ward. (from court records Jun 24, 1679, in Deeds, vol.5,p.31.).
Have no doubt Johns parents were in New Castle and that John was born there.
However, it is also confirmed in source 180 that a John West, son of Edward and
Martha, was baptized at St.Martin Outreach March 19,1676. Was on tax list 1690,
had ale house license 1692, tavern license 1693, 1695, and on coroner`s jury 1693.
Source 542 says "In 1695, John West`s "The Golden Ball" tavern in
Newcastle contained eight rooms including a "Shuffleboard Chamber",
as well as a "barr" and shop."
Source 930 says "the inn of John West of New Castle, was inventoried in 1695. The
rooms listed in this document suggest a two-story, center-chimney dwelling with a
hall or large room on one side of the first floor, a bedroom opposite, and a kitchen
behind the chimney. Partitioned off from the first-floor bedroom may have been the
"shop", with a few dry goods for sale, and the "barr" furnished with a settle, four
chairs, and three tables. Upstairs were two sleeping chambers and, perhaps over
the kitchen, a "Shuffleboard Chamber." The house was filled with chairs of many
sorts, beds and bedsteads, and many joint stools, one of the most common forms
of seventeenth-century seating furniture. In keeping with seventeenth-century love
of malt beverages, there was a separate "brew house" containing a"copor or furnace."
The kitchen also contained several casks of wine, rum, and molasses, and no less
than twenty barrels of cider."
Source 930, page 32, also refers to "The Golden Ball Tavern" in New Castle, but its
exact location is not mentioned anywhere. All the evidence indicates it to be the
same tavern Johns' father had as The Anchor Inn.
(Portsmouth Town Records1645-1713 Vol. 1,
in the Portsmouth City Library Research Room has several
entries for John as follows:

Had 4 children. Source 455, Ports Of Piscataqua-Saltonstall, page 62,
Source 484, "Immigrants To America Appearing
In English Records" book 8715, page 14, shows Edward and Martha as
passengers in 1676, which matches the baptism of John in March 1676.
Some early records show John as the father of Edward rather than his
brother. The brother relationship is confirmed in the State Archives,
71 South Front St. Concord, NH.. See NH Wills for Edward Sr. 1677, p198
which confirms both sons by name. See Marthas Will, 1678/9, p233. See
Johns Will, 1695, p414. Source 150, which is "Abstract Of The Property,
Known in 1660 as THE ANCHOR At New Castle, State Of New Hampshire", on
page 11 says "There were two sons, John West born before 1665 and Edward
West. The Estate of John West was administered by his widow Eliz West
December 30, 1695.
