Gerald de Camville purchased from King Richard the custody of Lincoln Castle and the province adjacent. This Gerald was a very powerful feudal lord in the reign of John, to which monarch he staunchly adhered. He m. Nichola, eldest dau. and co-heiress of Richard de Haye, and left an only son and heir, Richard, who m. Eustachia, dau. and heiress of Gilbert Bassett, and widow of Thomas de Vernon, and left an only dau. and heiress, Idonea, who m. William, son of William de Longespee, Earl of Salisbury.
