Notes
Individual:
In April of 1882, Olivier and Elizabeth, along with Joseph from Olivier's first marriage and their own four children emigrated to Joliette Township, Pembina County, North Dakota. Olivier became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America on April 11, 1882. Olivier and Elizabeth began living on their 160-acre ranch on the Red River on May 1, 1883. Olivier Mandeville is listed in the Pembina County landowner list of 1893. The legal description of their land was: Section 11, Township 161, Range 51, Base Line 5th, SE1/4.

Olivier and Elizabeth and eleven of their children, along with Joseph and his daughter, Eva, are listed on teh 1900 North Dakota Census. Simeon had moved to Massachusetts in 1896. Marie Louise died in 1888. For three consecutive years the Red River flooded and they lost their farm. Around 1905 they moved Eastward to Caribou/Blooming Valley Township in Minnesota and established a homestead there. Their daughter, Elizabeth married Joseph Lusignan on July 12, 1906 and their daughter, Emma married Jule Poirier about the same time.

On March 29, 1908, the children went to visit their neighbors, the Oaks, to see their new baby. They returned home late and a fire, caused by a log rolling out of the stove, broke out after midnight and burned their home tothe ground and they lost everything they had including their three youngest children: Delphine, Barendette, andJohn.

Shortly after this tragic accident, Olivier and Elizabeth moved with George, Georgianna, Alexander and Arcade to Massachusetts where their oldest son, Simeon, had settled. The 1910 Census in New Bedford lists Felix Arcade (26) carpenter (home); Alex (24) cloth room (cotton mill); Georgianna (18) weaver (cotton mill); George (19) carpenter (home). Olivier lived only two years after the horrible tragedy. He died of chronic pneumonia at 5:00 AM on June 5, 1910 at home.
