Copy of Jerimiah's Obituary given to me by Harry Bowlin
Jeremiah Bowlin of Jeanette died at the home of his grandson Julius Butler, at Somerfield, where he had been visiting, on Tuesday, February 15, aged 88 years, 9 months, and 12 days.
He was born May 3, 1827, in Addison Township, about 3 miles north of Somerfield. He was a son of the late Peter Bowlin, a member of one of the pioneer families of the southern part of Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
He married Miss Susie Critchfield of Confluence, who preceded him to the grave, many years. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Alvin Burnworth, Confluence; Mr. A. J. Shirer, Somerfield; and Mrs. Grant Show, Jeanette. Two sons preceded him to the Grave. He was a member of a family of eleven brothers and sisters and the last of them to pass away.
Up to a short time before his death, when he was stricken with grip followed by pneumonia. Mr. Bowlin always enjoyed good health, and not withstanding his advanced age, he was a man of fine physique and distinguished appearance. Those physical characteristics he maintained until the last. He was a sincere Christian, having become a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Liberty, now known as Johnson Chapel, December 4, 1849, and remained a faithful member until his death, and was revered and respected by all those who knew him. The funeral took place Thursday, February 17, at the Methodist Episcopal church, Somerfield, Rev, O. J. Rishel, of Addison officiating. Interment in Newberry Cemetery on the National Pike, two miles west of Addison (1916)
Buried in the Newbury Cemetery, Addison, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Data from a letter furnished by Harry Bowlin.[Bush.FTW]
