Abstractes from Rev. War pension files.
John Campbell born Feb 6,1761 in Vedford County, Virginia. Lived there at
enlistment in Revolut ionary War. Virginia Line. After was moved to Knox
County, tennessee. Then to Jackson Township in Preble County,Ohio.
Applies for pension Sept 21 1832. Li ves in Preble County 14 years. John
Married Sarah Vance. December 28,1796 in Jefferson County,Tennessee. John
Died may 14,1846 or 1847 at age 85 years. Wi dow applies April 11 1849,
Preble County,Ohio at age 75,years and still lives there in 1855. Sara
Had 16 Children in 18 years. She lived to be 81 years ol d. Children of
John and Sara were as follows on the family sheet. No Birthday s given for
5 girls. Record says the oldest child 29 years and the youngest 1 1 years.
Sara's two brothers John born 1770 and James born 1773 and her siste r
Elizabeth born 1796 lived in jefferson County,Tennessee. Sister was there
until 1796. Sara Probably died before James harvey moved to Arkansas,
1861-6 2.
Several years ago when I was trying to find the origin of my ancestor,
Jo hn Campbell who migrated to Hamilton County, Ohio ca. 1790, I sent for
any N ARA records. I was sent pension records of Revolutionary Soldier,
John Cam pbell who died in Jackson Township. Preble County, Ohio in 1847.
This
was no t my John Campbell, whom I later learned came from Franklin co.
Pennsylvania.

This other John Campbell had a large pension file. I am going to post
some of the details in case someone else on the list can identify with hi
m.
John Campbell, b. June 1778 in Bedford Co. Virginia. Served as a
volunteer 3mo. With Cap. R. Adams company, Colonel Lynch’s Virginia Reg
.
He volun teered Feb. 1781 with Capt. James Dickson’s company , Colonel
Williams’ Vi rginia Reg. Aug. 1781, with Capt Beard’s Company, Colone
l
Beard’s Co. . Cp;pme; Trigg’s Virginia Reg.
He moved from Bedford Co. Virginia to K nox Co. Tenn.. He married Sarah
Vance in Jefferson Co. Ten. Dec. 28, 1796. They moved to Jackson
Township.
Preble Co. Ohio where he died May 14, 1846 or 1847. His pension was
executed Sept. 21, 1832.
