Notes
Individual:
My father, Herbert was born on the farnily farm on Fiddler's Green Road, and grew up there. He attended school at Southcote, and on reaching adulthood married the girl across the road and down the hill-Alice Pottruff. In 1928 the family farm was sold and we moved to Hamilton-545 John St. North, just off Burlington Ave. near the Bay. It was in depression times and jobs were scarce. The great stock market collapse came in 1929 and my father lost his job at International Harvester. I recall going through a very difficult time. There was no money, and my parents lost the home, and in the ensuing years we moved to Winona then Grimsby then to Beamsville where my father managed a large farm for an English family- Field Marshall. Very few people had money in those days but raised a good garden each year, and I can't remember going hungry at any time
