Individual:
AT 18 HE CAME TO WAUKESHA CO. AND SPENT A YEAR AS A CLERK IN WASHINGTON CO. IN 1850 HE JOINED A PARTY OF 15 AND MADE A MEMORABLE SIX MONTH TRIP BY OXEN TO CALIFORNIA. HE WORKED FOR FIVE YEARS IN THE MINES OF THE GOLDEN GATE, THEN HE RETURNED

TO WISCONSIN VIA PANAMA AND NEW YORK CITY. HE THEN BOUGHT 120 ACRES AND BUILT A LOG HOME, WHICH AFTER MANY YEARS HE ADDED 70 ACRES AND BUILT A TWO STORY BRICK HOUSE. HE WAS A TOWN SUPERVISOR, AN ASSESSOR AND SERVED AS A SCHOOL BOARD OFFICER.
HE WAS PART OF THE "BIG BEND INDEPENDENT CALIFORNIA MINERAL AND LUMBERING COMPANY" IT INCLUDED 16 PERSONS INCLUDING JAMES STEWART, THOMAS AND DANIEL IRWINS.
