SAMUEL WAKEMAN was a resident at Harvard College for a time but left in 1655 without graduati ng on account of dissatisfaction with the authorities. He went to New Haven, New Haven, CT, where he married HANNAH GOODYEAR on Aug. 28, 1656.
Their first child was born in New Haven, CT. He then moved to Poquonnock (or Fairfield), Conn ecticut in 1663. HANNAH married second, Nathaniel Burr, and they had two children, John (b. 1674) and Daniel (b. 1677).
In September, 1692, "ANN" WAKEMAN testified in the witchcraft trials of New Haven. And her na me also appears as "ANN" in the probate records of 1721. During these times, the names "Ann" and "Hannah" were used interchangeably. And there is no evidence that SAMUEL had more than one wife.
SAMUEL is listed on the obelisk monument in the ancient burying ground at the Center Church i n Hartford, commemorating the founders of Hartford. The monument was erected in 1986 by the Descendants of the Founders of Hartford on the 350th anniversary of the city, replacing an older stone.
