HIS OCCUPATION WAS A SHIPS CARPENTER AND CAULKER.HE AND HIS BROTHER,ELIAB KING CAME TO NEWPORT WITH THIER FATHER IN LAW OBED BARLOW,VIA MAINE AND SANDWICH MASS.AROUND 1832.ELIAB KING MARRIED MATILDA BARLOW,LYDIAS SISTER.,WHO DECEND FROM A LONG LINE OF SHIPBUILDERS AND MARINERS ON BOTH THE BARLOW AND KING LINES.
I GUESS THEY HEARD THERE WAS WORK AT THE NEWPORT SHIP YARDS SO THEY AND THIER FAMILIES CAME TO NEWPORT.

iN 1839 HE WAS LISTED AS ONE OF THE OWNERS OF THE SLOOP "mayflower"
OUT OF NEWPORT ,WHOSE MASTER WAS ELIAB KING ( ref.Ships documents of R.I.,Vol.1 )
THEY STAYED IN NEWPORT UNTIL 1850 WHEN A DEED in the land evidence records of the city of Newport,recorded in Vol.28 p74,dated 2- 2 -1850,shows that Nicholas King,formerly of Newport and now of St.Louis,Missouri,Calker,conveyed a certain lot of land,etc to William D.King of Newport,caulker.William was one of their sons
Nicholas and wife Lydia were listed in the St.Louis Mo.city directory in 1851 as living on Webster St,north of Broadway in that city.They were not listed in 1852.He died in 1851 ,according to an inscription on his gravestone in the Old Common Burying Ground ,Newport,R.I.
