since his son, Samuel, was born by ca 1757, died by ca 1782, when his wife,
Isabella was recorded in the Rockbridge County, Va, tax list as head of
household. The earliest record of Walter which has been found was dated Oct

purchase by Samuel McChesney of Augusta Co, Va. (Walter's son) of 105 acres on
Hayes Creek in Augusta County (Deed Book 19, page 150) On May 16, 1775,
Walter, then a resident of Augusta County, bought 100 acres in Augusta County,
part of the Borden Tract, for 10 pounds (August Deed Book 21, page 145).
Walter appeared in the personal property and land tax records of Augusta Co,
Va, in 1777, with 1 white tither (himself), no black tithes, and 100 acres of
land, recorded on Charles Campbell's list. Morton listed Walter as a tithable

land conveyed by the executors of Benjamin Burden to Walter McChesney, who,
dying interstate left the same to Samuel, his son and heir at law, with the
right of dower to the said Isabella, his mother, Polly and Jane, his sisters,
who intermarried with Asher and Young, and Walter, his brother. Witness: Walter
