In the History of Beverly, along with the mention of the first
schoolhouse in town and the contract with Dr. Samuel Hardy who served as the
first teacher, was the comment that "besides being a teacher of youth, he is
supposed to have exercised the functions of a physician".
He was of Beverly at the time of his decease (NH Records, 48:393-394).
