Individual:
St. Peter's School, was later sold to Ted Newman who changed itsname to Glenthorne. When Ted Newman decided to emigrate to NewZealand he sold the house to Alfred Blackler. Richard was sent home from Gibraltar whilst his sistersremained.Witness testimony from his daughter, Maggie Bose, in 2004: "Theinteresting thing about his being at St Peters as a child was,of course, that following Alfred James Blackler's death in 1930,Maria Waymouth built a house (Stover Lodge) at Torre where sheand son Frederick George moved. At the same time, Richard andhis wife and children moved from 66 Union Street to Glenthorne(his old prep school which remained his home until his death. In1936/7/8? he went to Somerset as water engineer to, I believe, the local authority, his HQ being at Axbridge and his lodgingsin Cheddar. His WWII servie commenced in 1938/39 when he movedto Wokingham (HQ and lodgings) where he was in charge of watersupplied and sewage of a big new army establishment being builtnearby name of Arborfield. I suppose he was Garrison Engineer atthis point, but have no absolute knowledge. When the building of Arborfield was completed, King George VIcame to open it/inspect it/commission it (whatever one does tonew military establishments). Prior to the great day, my fatherarranged for a special toilet to be built just inside the maingate for the king's use. Upon arrival the royal vehiclesstopped for a while just inside the gate to facilitate HM'srequirements. My father was in the official line-up to beintroduced to HM. When the King got to him he shook his handand thanked him, saying that official occasions had taught himto relieve himself wherever and whenever the opportunity arose!"
