http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/8432/g0000012.htm#I093USR 20 Jan 2004 720 Jan 200410:24:07From Chapter 1 of THE NOEL FAMILY we learn:
The Princess Augustus arrived at Philadelphia on 16 September 1736 from Rotterdam, Holland, via Cowes, Isle of Wright, England. On board were 330 immigrants including Enos (Ennos Aeneas, A. Eneas) Noel, aged 36, with wife and child; and Joseph Noel, aged 56, his wife, a son Pierre (Peter), aged 16, and 5 other children. The record states that many of the immigrants were from the Palatine (an area of Germany near the French border), but it does not say that all were from there. It is possible that Joseph and Enos were from the Palatine as there were French-speaking families in that area. There is also a legend that they came from the Alsace area of France, which is also near the German border. ... perhaps we shall never be able to establish their home closer than this.
The next day, 17 September 1736, Enos, Joseph, and Peter took the oath of allegiance to the British crown in Philadelphia.
Much of the following also comes from THE NOEL FAMILY which we received from Peter Everhart.
Joseph NOEL moved to the Pigeon Hills area of York County, Pennsylvania. We do not know his wife nor for certain how many children he had. We are aware of eight sons: Peter born 1720, John born 1722, Nicholas born 1723, Philip born 1724, Jacob, Andrew, Daniel, and Joseph born 25 December 1739. From the fact that son Joseph became a bound apprentice on 31 January 1754 we presume that Joseph died in late 1753 or early 1754. His wife apparently preceded him in death.
Peter NOEL was born in Germany or France in 1720 and came to America with his parents in 1736. His wifeÕs name was Margaret and together they had ten children: Peter born 1750, John born 1753, Daniel, Mary NOEL-SELL, Barbara NOEL-STRASSPACH born 1759, Blasius (Bloss) born 1762, Nicholas born 1764/65, Jacob born 1765/66, Magdalena born 1768/69, and Margaret born 1770/71.
The family s found in Paradise Township of York County, Pennsylvania. In 1754 Peter was ÒOverseer of the PoorÓ, and in 1764 a constable, both in Paradise Township.
Peter died in Paradise Township in October 1771, his will was probated 29 October 1771.
Nicholas NOEL the son of Peter NOEL and Margaret was born in York County, Pennsylvania in 1765. Nicholas married Mary, or Maria, and together they had eleven children of which we are aware. The children include: Nicholas II born 08/12/1812, Elizabeth RAMPSBERGER, Magdelena DEETZ, Barbara RINEHART, Catherine DEETZ, Margaret MILLER, Rebecca MILLER, Susaniah BOROMAN, Sarah EVERHART born 10/07/1809, Christina ERWIN born 06/03/1811, and Mary DEETZ.
Mary NOEL-DEETZ married Jacob DEETZ. See DEETZ Line DEETZ Line .
We also have a second NOEL connection...
Lucy Ann NOEL married Charles SHIVELY on 07 April 1844 in Trumbull County, Ohio. We know Lucy was born in Ohio 03 April 1825. We suspect that her Father was Jacob NOEL and her Brother Barnet NOEL but have no documentation. Charles and Lucy had three children; Sarah in 1844, Elijah in 1848 and John N. or M. in 1850 or 1852.
Charles SHIVELY was born 03 January 1823 in Beaver, PA. Charles died 18 March 1906, Lucy followed him the next year 06 November 1907. They are buried together in the Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, Ohio.
