The Hackney family had moved to Frederick Co., VA, from New Castle, DE, in 1760. The family w as Quaker, and records can be found in Hinshaw and "Old Hopewell; also Haddon's History of Fayette Co., PA. Sarah's father died in 1745. Children were born of this marriage. Sarah must have moved to Greene Co., PA, where a will is on file -- whether for Sarah or Thomas, the author does not specify. Sarah was not the mother of all of Thomas Province's children: both he and Sarah had had children by their first marriages. (Guthery Family of Greene Co., p. 13) The problem here is that Sarah Hackney seems clearly to have been a generation younger than the Thomas Province who was father of Lettice. Was there another Thomas Province in Frederick Co., VA.?
