that she believed richard was son of jan hendrickse vandenbergh who was in beverwyck in 1683 - 1688. jan she thought was son of hendrick vandenbergh who settled in Beverwyck in in 1663. richard owned land coxsackiebefore 1725 because he built stone house on menders kill,he bought landfrom thomas williams in 1729,he was elder drc of coxsackie
in 1735.
history of greene county implies that he was a friend of the conyns
and leased property from them on moving to coxsackie.
the newspaper articles of 1889 was put in a book book "ye olden times " in 1935. this book states rykert (Richard) van den berg was a cousin of martin van bergen who came directly from holland and had no prior ancestors in america. his married cathryn hotaling and his sons ultimately received half of the hotaling patent which was renamed the vandenberg patent. the patent was later split among children and grandchildren of the vandenbergs and they tried to cheat the broncks out of land and lost.
