Individual:
The Rev. Jacob Ware, Jr. matriculated All Souls College at Oxford Univ. on Mar 12, 1675 and graduated with a BA 1678/79. He came to Virginia in 1689 and served as minister of St.Peter's Parish, and later Henrico County, Virginia. In "Cavalier's and Pioneers, Abstracts of Virginia Patents and grants, 1632-1666," Nell Marion Nugent lists the names of immigrants arriving in Virginia on Nov 11, 1681. On this list is "Ware, a minister." The date is correct to be the arrival of Jacob Ware, minister of Henrico Parish, which was the second settlement in the Virginia colony. NOTE: When I went back to check this entry for Ellis O. Moore, I could not locate it. Also 1861 does not fit into the dates of these abstracts. It is believed that Reverand Jacob Ware and his wife Susannah Adams left wills. It is believed that they lived on the Rappahannock. He was "Minister to St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, VA, 1690-1695 and Minister to Henrico Parish, Henrico City, VA from 1695-1709 when he died. The Gloucester County, VA records were largely destroyed during the Civil War, it has been impossible to learn anything of the "Wares" of that county. reverand Jacob Ware was in Henrico County befre 1700, as given by dasheil. In June 1698, a suit was entered against him. Summons returned "non est inventus". He had a son, Francis, to whom Robert Symons, by will probated in 2 Dec 1700, gave all of his estate. The estate of Jacob Ware was inventoried 1 Jul 1709. In April 1716, Francis Ware made a deposition that he was the oldest son of Jacob Ware, minister of Henrico Parish more than 20 years. In the "Virginia Historical Magazine" there are copies of several letters that were sent to the Governor of VA and also to the ArchBishop of Cantebury, These letters were signed by Jacob Ware and other clergy. Jacob Ware died intestate before 1 Aug 1709, when Susannah Ware, hisrelict, presented his inventory in court. ( See Weisiger, " Colonial wills of Henrico County," page 77.) NOTE: James H. Ware has copies of the inventories as presented to the court in Henrico County, Virginia. These are dated: 22 Jul 1709___Aug 1709, 1 Sep 1709, 1 may 1710, 1 Jun 1710. Encylpedia of VA Biography, VOl.1, Lyon Gardiniem Tyler,LL.D., New Historical Publishing Co, 1915. Rev.Jacob Ware was Rector for 20 years of the Henrico parish between 1624 and 1693. This church was founded in 1611; but all records have been destroyed up to 1693, at which time Rev. Robertson became Rector and remained there until 1740. according to Ellis O. Moore, the place of birth for Jacob Ware was Gloucester County, Va. Date of death for Jacob ware is based upon court records used to settle his estate. he died without a will.
