Some accounts refer tothis Nicholas Ware as " Nicholas Ware I Old Rappahannock County. Extracted from Virginia Gleanings in england by Lothrop Withington, Published by The Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, MD, 1980. Nicholas Ware, late of Rappa Hannock in Virginia, deceased. Renunciation of administration of estate, August, 1662, by Anne Ware, relict. Court Act Book PCC, Admin Act Book for year 1662 being lost. ========================================================================= ========= Nicholas Ware lived in Rappahannock County. On January 3, 1661, a certificate had that day signed a power of attorney to Mr. John Ware, of Rappahannock. Unfortunately portions of this document have been destroyed by nature, thus it may not be copied in its entireity. There is sufficient portions to show that it gives full and complete power of attorney to " beloved friend, John Weir." This document is on file in "Old rappahannock County Records, Deed Book #2, 1656-64, page 223. ************************************************************************** ************************************** BE IT KNOWN unto all men by these presents that I, Nicholas Ware, now resident in the County of Rappahannock in Virginia, Merchant an holden and firmly bound unto John Vassall of the Island of Barbadoes, Merchant, in the full sum of Seventeen thousand two hundred and thirty four pounds of Good Merchantable Tobacco and Casks and to be paid unto the said John Vassall his heirs executors, administrators or assignees or to his Lawful Attorney to which the payment well and truly to be made and done. I, the said Nicholas Ware and my heirs and executors and administers firmly by these presents. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty fourth day of April one thousand six hundred and two and in the thirteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King Charles the Second. The condition of this obligation us such that whereas the above bounden Nicholas Ware hath bought and recieved of the above named John Vassall four good healthful negroes. Viz two men and two women and that the remains due in part for the said negroes the sum of Eight thousand six hundred and seventeen pounds of good tobacco and casks. If therefore the above bounden Nicholas Ware shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the above named John Vassall, his heirs Executors or Assigns the aforesaid full and the whole sum of Eight thousands six hundred and seventeen pounds of sound and merchantable Virginia leaf tobacco with sufficient ccasks to contain the same within the County of Rappahannock in Virginia at or upon the fourth day of October next Ensining the and whereof that then this obligation to be void and of non Effector Else to remain in full force , power and virtue. The entry is dated 1 April 1670. It is copied below. Viriginia An Acc'T: of tob'o rec'd by John Sassin in order pertaining to the estate of Nicho. Ware, Dec'd by Vertue of a power (unreadable) order Rec'd of Capt. John Pinchoone of N. England and assd Sassin is his attorney presented to this Hon'ble Court to be recorded this 1st of April 1670. Imp Off Major Andrew Gibson rec'd by Capt. Thomas Hawkins the attorney of Major John Weir the ball'ce of his acct Rec'd also by sd Hawkins the sume of eight hundred and eleven pounds of Tob'o & Caske, I say _______________0811 errors Excepted John Sassin Recorded: 4 May 1670 Test: R. On page 859, Genealogical Gleanings in England by Henry F. Water, A.M. published (reprint) in 1969 by Gen Pub Co, Baltimore, MD there is a reference to Nicholas Ware, Sr. and his son Nicholas, Jr. in the last Will and Testament of William Pynchon, signed 4 October 1662 and proved 8 december 1662. He appoints friend John Wickens to be his executor to finiah his administration of business concerning Master Nicholas Ware.
