John Lawrence Evans
John L Evans was born in Devonshire England in 1823. Was married there Aug. 13, 1847 to Harriet Lang. Came to this country in 1854. He lived in N.Y. State until 1882 when he moved to Mich. He was sick from about twenty years with asthma and bronchitis and died May 25 1892 aged 69 yrs and 29 days. Funeral was held from the house May 28. Funeral sermon preached from the text "Behold, thou hast made my days as a hand breadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee; verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity." Psa. XXXIX-5 by Rev. J.B. Whitford. He was laid to rest in Oxford cemetery.
