Memorial services for Harvey Hamilton Acheson will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. from Bossardet Funeral Home.
Mr. Acheson died in Lapeer County General Hospital Tuesday.
In 1928 he came to Oxford from Flint to begin what was to become Oxford's oldest family retail business...Acheson Jewelers. the business at 28 S. Washington, is presently owned by son, Kenneth.
Mr. Acheson was born in Walters Falls, Ontario, October 14, 1903.
He was married to Edith Moon in Windsor, Ontario.
His first jewelry store in Oxford was in a portion of the former Oakland Hotel building that stood on the east side of N. Washington Street.
Five years later he moved his watchmaking and jewelry sales business to 12 S. Washington, where it remained until 1924.
In 1967 Acheson Jewelers moved to the present location. Twenty-two years ago Mr. Acheson opened a second store in Lapeer. He spent most of his time there until retiring in 1971.
Mr. Acheson was a charter member of the Oxford Rotary Club and more recently was a member of the Lapeer Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias and Oxford United Methodist Church.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Kenneth and Marvin, both of Oxford, a sister, Myrtle Acheson of Toronto, and two brothers, Stuart of Toronto and Murray of Dorsett, Ontario.
He also leaves 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Rev. David Russell will officiate at the services. Contributions can be made to the Methodist Church or the Michigan Heart Fund.
